
Ken Gharial Reserve is an important Khajuraho tourist attraction which is often visited by tourists. After completing Khajuraho temples sightseeing, tourists love to visit Raneh fall and its adjoining Ken Gharial reserve. It is approx. 25kms from Khajuraho and connected by road. Sanctuary is spread over an area of 45.202sq.kms. It is a nature tourism site in Panna national park area. There are several beautiful rivers that rise from the Vindhya hill ranges of Central India. One of the prettiest is the ken river or Kiyen. The river flows in a northerly direction until it meets with the holy river Ganges. Ken gharial sanctuary can be visited while going to visit Raneh fall. Here we can find Gharials at their natural abode. This reserve is managed by Madhya Pradesh Forest Department. For visiting this spot, tourists are required to pay declared fee as per number of visitors and vehicle type. As it is a hilly terrain so it demands medium level of physical fitness. While visiting this spot, we recommend to carry your own water bottles, good camera with battery, sun-glasses, original ID document (of each visitor).
Timings
Ken Gharial Sanctuary can be visited from sunrise to sunset but boating time and spot is fixed. Here one can do boat-ride from Muhareghat in morning and evening hours. In morning hours, boating is possible from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM where as in evening hours, boat-ride can be done from 4:00 AM to 5:00 AM. For visiting this Ghariyal sanctuary, trained guides are provided by Forest Department on mandatory basis. It is open for visitors from October to June month. In this period, tourists can visit this sanctuary.
Flora Fauna
Ken Gharial sanctuary is known for Ghariyals. It is a forested area and part of Panna tiger reserve thus it is obvious that during our visit, we may have sighting of many other wildlife species like Wolf, Nilgai (Blue Bull), Dholes, Chinkara, Spotted Deer, Jackal, Indian Fox, Wild Boar, Hyena, Languar, Peacock, Monitor Lizard. If we are lucky enough, we may have sighting of Sloth Bear, Leopard in evening hours. These are the prominent fauna attractions. Ken Gharial Sanctuary flora attraction includes Teak, Seja, Salai, Gunja, Flame of Forest (Palash), Khair etc. Due to rocky region, here we may not find dense vegetation and region seems dry deciduous.
